Beyond 2020: Office and Other Outpatient Evaluation and Management Coding 51 Beyond 2020: Office and Other Outpatient Evaluation and Management Coding Beyond 2020: Office and Other Outpatient Evaluation and Management Coding Code changes that will not be effective until January 1, 2021, are of such significance to those pediatricians providing office and other outpatient evaluation and management (E/M) services that the AAP Pediatric Coding Newsletter began reporting on them a year before their imple- mentation. For readers who do not report codes 99201–99205 and 99211–99215, the effect of these particular 2021 changes will be negli- gible, but changes to the guidelines for these codes provide a glimpse of the type of changes that may be coming to other E/M codes in the future. (See the reasons for and an overview of the extent of changes to office and other outpatient E/M codes and guidelines elsewhere in this booklet.) Becoming familiar with what is changing allows you to assess how you and your practice will be affected in terms of documentation, code selection, and revisions that may be necessary to your current coding resources.
