xiii Acknowledgments Thank you to the families who shared with me their successes and challenges in meeting their health and wellness goals. A special thank-you to those who pilot tested the strategies, tips, and tricks that fill the pages of Family Fit Plan. This includes my own family—Bob, Thomas, and Mariella—who completed several 30-day family wellness transformations over the last few years. I also want to thank my mom, who, more than 20 years ago, took me on an unlikely adventure to the Grand Canyon that strengthened our friendship and changed my life. That experience was the impetus for many choices I’ve made over the course of my young adulthood, training, and career. I’d also like to thank my dad, who showed me that when the time and circumstances are right, we can make changes that stick—even more so when we have the support and encouragement of our families. I am grateful to the entire Publishing staff at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), in particular Kathryn Sparks, who believed in this book and helped to usher it from an idea into what is in the pages that follow. Thank you to Holly Kaminski, who oversaw an editing process that greatly improved this book. Thank you to Drs Sarah Armstrong, Blaise Nemeth, and Steve Abrams, and AAP staff members Mala Thapar, Anjie Emanuel, and Debra Burrowes, who provided invaluable feedback and insights to make this plan most useful for families. Finally, thank you to Dr Mary Tanaka for sharing her delicious, kid-tested, healthy, easy-to-make recipes that help bring Family Fit Plan to life.
